Results – Bowls Vic Novice and State Singles

The O&M Singles and Novice Singles titles were decided at the Benalla Bowls Club on Sunday the 21st of January.

Men’s Novice Singles

The first final completed was the Men’s Novice Title with Jim Murtagh (Myrtleford) defeating Robert Morgans (Moyhu).

Murtagh had earlier won through to the final with a Semi-Final win over Chiltern’s Russel Maher, while Morgans defeated Moira’s Les Wallace.

Women’s Novice Singles

The next final completed saw a win to Abbey Arendt (Moira) who defeated Anthea Nockels (Moyhu).

 Arendt defeated Mansfield’s Michelle Mios and Nockels defeated Helen Murtagh (Myrtleford) in their respective Semi Finals.

Men’s State Singles

In the Men’s State Singles Ethan Fruend (Wangaratta) defeated Koby Cromie (Yarrawonga) 25-20 in their Semi-Final and Lance Bradshaw (Swanpool) defeated Chris Langdon (Rutherglen) 25-20 in the other Semi Final.

The final was an entertaining match with Fruend holding a slight lead for most of the game but Bradshaw was right in the mix before Fruend closed out the game 25-20.

Women’s State Singles

The women’s singles was the last match to be completed Rho Smith (Wangaratta) defeated Kylie Whitehead (Wodonga) in a Semi-Final thriller (25-22) while Laureen Smith (YMGCR) was on fire defeating Jodie Fruend (Wangaratta) 25-12.

In the Final Rho jumped out to an early lead and looked to have all the answers before Laureen rallied to storm home and claim the title 25-20.

Congratulations to all the winners and to Benalla Bowls Club for hosting both the Sectional and Finals of the Singles. It was especially pleasing to see the excellent number of entries in the Novice singles with 5 rounds needed to decide the winners.
