Pennant – Divisions and Planned Programme Dates
All clubs be advised that Bryan Smith has volunteered to Chair the Pennant Committee allowing Noel Murrell to concentrate fully on performing the duties of Pennant Coordinator and managing BowlsLink.
Below is the Divisions and a copy of the Planned Fixture dates for the 2022/23 Pennant season. It is unfortunate that there are 9 Sides in Weekend A3 and at this time Midweek B1.
With Weekend Pennant the committee needed to accommodate the Sides from Howlong BC who are now affiliated with Bowls Vic/ Ovens and Murray. The Pennant Committee determined that Howlong’s Weekend senior side was of A3 standard. The Committee also felt it unfair to clubs in our Region to demote Sides or not promote the Side which gained eligibility for promotion from Division B at the end of last season.
However, the committee has decided that at the end of the 2022/23 season that Weekend Divisions A need to be adjusted to 8 Sides per Division. With this in mind:
The Pennant Committee has determined: At the end of this season the bottom Side in Division A3 will be demoted to Division A4, The bottom Side in Division A4 will be demoted to Division B and no Side from Division B will be promoted to Division A.
Midweek Pennant: In Division B1 there is 9 Sides requiring a Draw of 16 Rounds (not desirable but we have no choice). Should any club in Division B feel that they will struggle to field the required number of players each week please consider dropping your Side which will allow the committee to restructure Division B to 8 Sides per Division. The alternative is to receive an additional 4 Sides allowing a restructure to 3 x B Divisions.

THE PLANNED FIXTURE DATES. Please note that there are staggered start dates to our season due to a number of players playing in the Australian Championships and two Divisions with 9 Sides. Unfortunately, there is no flexibility in the programme due to the Australian Championships and two Victorian Opens during our bowls season. Due to limited flexibility, the Pennant Committee has decided that there will be no ‘Catch Up’ games this season.
Once again there will be some twilight games programmed in the Fixture and possibly include some games in the lower Divisions.
