Bowls Vic Update –  Draft Conditions of Play & Event Information

REGIONAL PENNANT & STATE EVENTS – SEASON 2021/22
|   Draft Conditions of Play & Event Information

 To all Regions,

The 2021/22 season is almost upon on us! Fingers crossed all the hard work you’ve done doesn’t get interrupted by lockdowns.

Included within this email you’ll find the Conditions of Play for State and Regional events, and Regional Pennant for 2021/22.

They are in DRAFT form at this stage, until Friday 27th August, giving Regions an opportunity to point out any clear and obvious errors, which we would ask that you send through to jimmy@bowlsvic.org.au

STATE & REGIONAL EVENTS – CONDITIONS OF PLAY

Here are some changes to this year’s conditions, summarised below:

Pairs and Mixed Pairs Regional and State games – to be 15 ends for all rounds except finals (which remain at 18). This change has been made to streamline events at all levels.

State Pennant Championship final – restrictions on players playing under any  gender restrictions that they qualified in, have been removed. Bowls Victoria is working to set an example that at this level of pennant, all players are treated equally. Players must have met the eligibility requirement to play in finals at their Region/playing area.

Over 60’s Qualification – this has always been based on the date the O60 State Champs event commences. Due to the changing nature we live in now, and the need to cancel events at short notice, we’ve specified this date for easier reference.

Protected Events – please take note of all protected events, including the addition of Pennant, where Region events cannot be scheduled.

Please note:  Bowls Victoria will not be providing entry forms to Regions for Regional events. The expectation is that all Regions are to gather entries and run their events through Bowlslink, which we understand a good number of Regions are already doing. Below is a training guide detailing how to do this, and our Education Training Manager can provide support via webinars, one-on-one meetings, by phone or in person.

REGIONAL PENNANT

It was decided to house the Regional Pennant Conditions of Play in their own document this year, again for ease of reference.

No major changes have been made, predominantly just a re-ordering of the document to assist with the flow of content. Please take the time to read the revised document, and update your Region’s Pennant Conditions of Play if referring back to any clauses within this document.

Again, this document is currently in DRAFT format, with a final version to be released for wider distribution following any feedback or final amendments as necessary.

REGION SIDES

We are pleased to announce that Moama Bowling Club will be hosting this year’s Region Sides Championships, from Friday 8th April – Sunday 10th April.

The final schedule will be released soon, however we can advise that there will now be 2 games played on the Friday (8th), 3 on the Saturday (9th) and 2 on the Sunday, plus the final (10th). After the success of last year, the men’s and women’s championships will be contested side-by-side. Moama will enlist the help of Echuca Bowls Club in hosting the event.

Enhancements will also be made to the running of the event, which will include a bigger role for Team Managers. It’s imperative that all Regions understand the importance of this role, and accordingly have suitably qualified personnel, as it goes a long way to ensuring the event is a success for all involved. Attached is a Position Description for the Team Manager role. Please use this as a guide when appointing someone to the role. If you have any questions, please reach out to Jimmy Whitehead.

Please remember that this event is held in high regard in relation to Bowls Victoria’s High Performance Program. The performance from players at this event are reviewed in the process of selecting the sides for the City v Country State trials. We ask that you select your sides accordingly, putting forward your best players as the State selectors and coaching staff will be present at the event/s.
