RESULTS OF CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS AND MENS PAIRS FINAL – Played 10th February

All games were played in perfect weather conditions on very good greens, and it was pleasing to see a good crowd of spectators there to support the players, and witnessed excellent bowling.

WOMEN’S CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS SEMI-FINALS

Sharen Warfe (Benalla) defeated Jill Woods 25 / 22

Kylie Whitehead (Wodonga) defeated Laureen Smith (YMGCR) 25 / 6

Final

Kylie Whitehead got away to an great start leading Sharen 14 / 1 after 8 ends, Sharen closed the margin

To be down 17 / 8 after 14 ends, and 21 / 15 after 19 ends. After 22 ends the score was 22 / 17 and Kylie gained the required 3 shots in the next 2 ends to win the Women’s Champion of Champions for the 2018- 19 season. A fantastic achievement have already won the State Singles as well.

MEN’S CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS

Third Round

Sam Widdop (Rutherglen) defeated Phil Hodge (Tawonga- Mt Beauty) 25 / 14 to reach the Semi-Final against Ken Widdison (Corowa RSL)

Thomas Webb (Corowa Civic) defeated Tim Cromie in an excellent game with scores even at 7 all after 10 ends, 11 all after 17 ends, 14 all after 21 ends. Tom scored 5 shots in the next 2 ends, Tim could only score 2 singles in the remaining ends and Thomas won the game 25 / 16 to reach the Semi-Final against Ray Irvine (YMGCR).

Semi- Finals

Both Semi-Finals were very good games

Thomas Webb got away to good start scoring in 8 of the first 11 ends to take an early lead of 16 / 4, and lead 23 / 6 after 16 ends when Ray staged his fightback scoring 7 shots in the next 4 ends, but the Thomas went on to win 25 / 14 to reach the Final

Ken Widdison Corowa RSL got away to a good start against Sam Widdop and lead 11 / 3 after 7 ends, Sam scored 4 and 1 to close the gap to 11 / 8 after 9 ends, Ken scored 3 on the 10th end. Sam close the gap to

14 / 13 after 13 ends, when Ken score 6 singles an a 2 to Sam’s 2 to again stretch the lead to 20 / 15 after 20 ends. Sam again scored 6 shot to 1 to close the gap to 1 shot after 25 ends 21 / 20. Ken scored the required 4 shots to 1 over the next 3 ends to win 25 / 22, an excellent game from both players.

Ken Widdison will play Thomas Webb in the Men’s Champion of Champions Final next Sunday at Corowa Civic at 9 .30 am


MEN’S STATE PAIRS FINAL

Ian Brimblecombe and Mark Bell from Wangaratta played Les Spencer and Peter Velardo from YMGCR.

This was a great game with scores tied at 5 all after 5 ends, Ian and Mark opened up a gap to lead 10 / 6 at 8 ends and 17 / 9 after 12 ends.Les and Peter scored 2 and 3 singles to trail by 3 shots 14 / 17 after 16 ends.

Ian and Mark went on to win the Men’s State Pairs 18 / 16 and will represent O & M at Champions Week in April.
