Player Behaviour During Pennant

Could club secretaries make all pennant players aware of this notice?

The Board of the Ovens and Murray Bowls Region has received several reports of player behaviour in breach of the Condition of Play for Pennant in Victoria this season. This has involved abusive language, physical intimidation and unsportsmanlike comments. This behaviour is not acceptable in our pennant competition.

It is important that clubs make all players aware of the Conditions of Play and Rules under which the pennant competition is conducted. These detail the expectations for player behaviour during pennant matches under Bowls Victoria rules and regulations.  Attached are the BV Regulations for Pennant and our own O&M Pennant Conditions of Play. All players should be aware of the regulations under which they play and the expectations for player behaviour.  They should also be aware of the consequences for them and their team for breaches of the rules.

There are serious and immediate penalties that can be applied by umpires during pennant matches if player behaviour breaches rules.  These include awarding 8 shots to the opponent for the end in play immediately upon observation by the umpire or reporting to the umpire of such behaviour.  A second infringement by any member of the same team can result in immediate disqualification and forfeiture of the match. Any of the above Umpire imposed sanctions are final and cannot be contested, disregarded or appealed.

On behalf of the Ovens and Murray Board I urge all players to play pennant within the rules and regulations and maintain a healthy competitive playing environment in which we can all enjoy our game.
